This map will be used for both the Middle and Long distance events, each event
focusing on different parts of the map. Terrain is a mixture of classic Alberta
features - mixed forest , areas of open land, wetland , and with
limited trails or cut-lines. This variety should definitely challenge your arsenal of
orienteering skills and how fast (and accurate) you can change and adapt to the
different types of terrain.
Field-work was conducted in 2006 & 2007 by the group of Czech mappers that
Alberta has been working with since preparations for the 2005 World Masters
(Ales Henja, Vendula Hejnova, Ludek Krticka and Radim Ondracek).
The terrain is described by the mappers as...
"Astonishing terrain. Mixture of contour details, swamps, forest, and pastures. Terrain is very
challenging, visibility in forest changes from clean to parts with low visibility, runability also still varies
from fast open/clean to slow swampy parts. High grass is during the year eliminated by cattle, spring
can bring problems with crossing swamps, but all have solid ground."

This map will be used for the Sprint event. Don't worry - there are no
Snakes here , the hill just looks like a snake when viewed from above.
To continue the theme of maps presenting a variety of challenges, this map
includes a local recreational area, urban neighbourhoods, town parks and trails,
and green space along the river.
Field-work was conducted in 2007 by Ales Henja and Radim Ondracek.
