SPRINT CHALLENGE EVENT
FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR THE COF HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
Imagine a school athletic
field filled with orienteering controls. You are racing against
3 others, spectators watching your every move. At the word go you
race to the first control - then head off on your own loop in all
different directions. After a few minutes and a few different
loops, you punch the last control only a few seconds in the lead ....
Can you keep your lead in the sprint to the finish ?
The Sprint Challenge
finishing off the WCOC's this year is an event not to miss.
- Sprint distances
around 1 km only (4-5 minute winning times)
- Competitors race
in two qualifying heats before being placed in a final heat
- 4 Divisions -
Adult Male , Adult Female , Youth , Junior / Recreational
- Counts in the
North American Sprint Series
- Entire course in
full view of spectators
- Fundraiser event
for the Canadian High Performance Program
As well, if you
wish to Challenge someone one-on-one (whether they be a friend or
foe) simply make a donation to the HPP and we'll get you out on the
course.

Sprint Challenge Format /
Rules
- Course consists of mini-sprints ,
each with a 3-5 minute winning time (approx. 1 to 1.5 km distance).
Course is in full view of spectators.
- Four divisions : a) Men's b)
Women's c) Youth d) Junior and Recreational
- Each competitor runs in 2 qualifying
heats, with 4 or 5 runners in each heat.
- Points given for each heat as
follows: 1st place - 10 pts , 2nd place - 6 pts, 3rd - 4 pts, 4th -
3 pts , 5th - 2 pts
- Combined points results of
qualifying heats will determine which Final Heat each runner will
race in. Top six in each division will race in the 'A Final'.
Next six in each division will race in 'B Final' etc.
(Tie-breaker will be based on % of winning time combined for your
two heats).
- During the Sunday Banquet - a random
draw will take place to determine which qualifying heats you will
run in.
- Each mis-punch will be a 1 minute
penalty - which will normally place you in the bottom of your heat.
- Maps are roughly 1:1800 scale .
Courses WILL NOT have control numbers on them. Sample map will be
shown at the banquet.
