​SELF-GUIDED Adventure with orienteering

How does this work?
The self-guided adventure involves finding a series of checkpoints with a map. The checkpoints are marked with orange/white control markers that are placed on features in a park.
​It's like a treasure hunt without the treasure!
You can download a map that shows where the control markers are. This will guide you to discover a park in your area. After you sign up we will send you a code which lets you to log in into the webpage (PDF MAPS)  where you can download the maps.
Registration is free, but you need to sign a waiver.

We are offering 2 locations and 2 levels:
  • Airdrie
  • Cochrane
  • For Calgary  and Edmonton visit your local clubs.
Adventure Hike:  distance around 1.5-2 km
 Particularly designed for newcomers and families with no map reading experience All the control markers will  be accessible from trails.
Orienteering course:  longer courses around 3-5km. Previous experience required. 

Cochrane Kid's Bike Challenge : 

Cochrane Community Bike Challenge : Download your map and complete the course on your bike. Two courses, short for ages 6y and under and a bit longer course for ages 7y and up. The short and long courses use the same checkpoints. The long course has couple extra. 
​The RANCHE  Challenge: 
Find the two check points which are missing the descriptions on the map.
(#2 and #6 short course, #2 and #14 long course). Describe the object they were hanged on and email it to
info@orienteeringalberta.ca Winners will be notified by email. The draw is on July 15.


FiRst REGISTER HERE
You need to register (free) and sign a waiver to get  an email with the log-in code to download the maps. (Check your spam folder for ZONE4 email if you can't find it . If you already registered for the Neighbourhood Adventure it’s the same code.)

Instructions: watch this video which explains how to start. The only difference is that we don’t need you to write down the control codes.
Important information:
Practice social and physical distancing keep at least 2 meters away from others and don’t touch anything in the public parks. Please ensure that any outdoor activities that you do comply completely with the regulations and recommendations of your health authorities and governments.
