Community Sport Coaches usually are parents, teachers, group leaders, O-club members and youth who wants to keep in touch with the sport . They are not necessarily experienced orienteers but they have a desire to contribute towards the junior programs and the active sport community.
The training program (workshop) for Community Coaches is 9 hours long and split into three segments with outdoor practical activities.
The course will introduce participants to the coaching role, practice planning and will cover basic orienteering techniques. Be prepared to spend couple hours outside and have fun teaching each other.
After registration you will be added to the CCA (Coaching Association of Canada ) database and receive an NCCP ( National Coaching Certification Program) number. By  actively participating in the workshop you will  earn the Trained Community Sport Coach status.
After registration you will receive an email closer to the date inluding all the details about the workshop.

FAQ for young sport leaders :
Q: What is NCCP?
The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) provides standardized, inclusive, and safe sport education to coaches and coach developers across 65 sports. The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) manages and delivers NCCP training through its partner network of 65 National Sport Organizations and Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations.
Q: Why should I become a youth sport leader?
By taking this course and become a trained community coach you will be able to volunteer (and later work) with kids sport programs. You can transfer the skills you learn into different multi- sport programs, community events, and school programs.
Why is it good to get involved?
  • It will keep you connected with your favourite sport/activity.
  • Coaching is a team sport: you will have friends and “team mates.”
  • Coaching is rewarding; you will be a role model, kids will look up to you and will make you feel appreciated.
  • You will learn many life skills and start experiencing the “work” environment.
  • You will start building your resume, and it will be easier to land a job later.
Q: Are Community Coaches "certified" by the CAC?
A.  There is no formal evaluation of Community Coaches after the workshop. As such, new CC's will remain as "Trained" and they recommended to  coach  with a help of a certified coach, indirect supervision.
Q. After the CC workshop, will I be registered as a coach with the CAC?
A. Yes. You will receive a NCCP number and you will be entered into the CAC's certification database (The Locker) where your progress as a coach (in all sports) will be recorded. There is more information about NCCP certification on the  GET COACHING website.
